Dang’s timeless and classic signature style is evident in all her works. The gowns she designs and creates exude glamour, poise and sophistication, befitting well-heeled professionals who seek nothing but the best for themselves and the wedding dress of their dreams.
She continually seeks to reinvent the traditional Cheongsam, creating inspiring interpretations by exploring with mixes of fabrics and colours. With over 20 years of designing experience and a persistent pursuit for beauty, Dang proves to be an iconic yet modest bridal designer.
“The venue, the bride’s personality and her body shape. For instance, if it’s a poolside or garden wedding, then the gown cannot be too heavy or it will be difficult for the bride to move around. If the bride prefers a more minimalist look, then beading, rather than lace, is more suitable for her. Finally, if she is petite, an overly long train is out of the question.”
“It has a soft, vintage feel and is most presentable.”
“Different layers of lace may be sewn together to create a bold and unique pattern.”
Some of the laces Dang uses are from Carrickmacross Lace, which made the lace on the wedding dress of Catherine Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge.
Cheongsams differ from the traditional ones in the cuts and types of fabric used. For example, I combine silk, chiffon or French Lace with Mermaid cuts or A-lines.”
“Most brides come in, expecting a bustier gown because it is in vogue now. Also, it is a neckline that flatters most people. So, eight out of ten brides tend to end up choosing a bustier.”
“My favourite neckline is the V-neck, because it helps to stretch the figure and posture, whether you’re a petite or a plus-sized bride.”
“Not only can my customers know exactly what I’m referring to, I can see the overall effect of the colours on them. The small samples at the boutique may not be an accurate gauge.”
“Never follow the trends blindly. What’s most important is not having a gown that’s ‘in’, but one that fits your body and personality perfectly, and that you can wear with confidence.”
